Memories are made at The Shores, as the natives call this stretch of La Jolla on the ocean. Children and adults share the pleasures of swimming, kayaking and surfing in the water, while families picnic on La Jolla’s most expansive stretch of beach. In the summer, there is an infusion of part-time residents and tourists, many from Arizona and Texas. Of note in the area are the Scripps Institution of Oceanography with its graceful pier and the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club with its par three pitch and putt golf course and many tennis courts. The housing in this neighborhood includes apartments, condominiums, beach cottages, oceanfront homes, and sprawling homes on half acre sites in the Upper Shores just across La Jolla Shores Drive. The Upper Shores has some breathtaking homes with even more breathtaking north shore views. As La Jolla Shores Drive rises to the north, towards UCSD, it passes the beautiful, gated community of Montoro.
